Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Śaiva-homa sequence: abhiṣeka, kuṇḍa/kumbha worship, caru and sampāta-śodhana","lookup_keywords":["Śaiva-homa","kuṇḍa","kumbha-arcana","caru","sampāta-āhuti"],"quick_summary":"Perform Śiva worship and bathing as previously taught, worship Śiva’s fire in the kuṇḍa (or worship in a kumbha), prepare caru by rule, and purify the rite through the concluding sampāta offering while arranging protective measures."}
Concept: Ritual efficacy depends on correct sequence (pūrvavat), proper locus (kuṇḍa/kumbha), and final purification (sampāta) that seals the offering-cycle.
Application: When variants exist (textual readings/alternatives), maintain the invariant pillars: prior worship, correct installation, regulated oblation, and concluding purification.

Sandhi Resolution Notes: Text contains multiple manuscript notes (ग/ङ चिह्नितपुस्तकपाठः) not analyzed as padas. pūrvavaccāgnimiti etc. are variant readings; main analyzable continuous segment taken: snāpayet pūrvavat prārcya kuṇḍe ca śivapāvakaṃ ... vidhivacca caruṃ kṛtvā sampātāhutiśodhitaṃ. vidhivat+ca → vidhivacca; sampāta+āhuti → sampātāhuti.
Related Themes: Agni Purana 78 (sections on abhiṣeka, homa-vidhi, kumbha-sthāpana, rakṣā)
It prescribes the sequence in a Śaiva homa: worship and ablution as previously taught, worship of Śiva’s fire in the kuṇḍa (or alternately worship in a kumbha), performance of a protective rite (rakṣā), and preparation of the caru oblation finalized/purified by a sampāta-āhuti.
It functions like a compact ritual manual, preserving procedural options and manuscript variants (kuṇḍa vs. kumbha worship, establishing fire, protective rite), showing how the Agni Purana catalogs practical liturgical techniques alongside its many other disciplines.
Ablution, correct installation/worship, protective measures, and the concluding sampāta offering emphasize purification, sealing of the rite, and safeguarding the sacrificer—aimed at producing a ritually “complete” act that yields merit (puṇya) and spiritual auspiciousness.
