Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Tantra","secondary_vidya":"Mantra","practical_application":"Ritual self-deification (śivāham-bhāva) with mudrā: form the Śiva-hand gesture, place it on the head, and recite an identity-affirmation to establish adhikāra and mantra-siddhi in worship.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Śiva-hasta mudrā and śivāham-abhimāna (ritual declaration of identity)","lookup_keywords":["śiva-hasta","mudrā","śivoham","adhikāra","īśāna-kalpa"],"quick_summary":"By forming the Śiva-hand and touching the head while affirming ‘I am Śiva’, the practitioner ritually assumes authority and purity for the rite, centering the sacrifice/worship in awakened consciousness."}
Concept: Non-dual ritual identity: the worshipper assumes Śiva-nature (śivāham) to perform worship from the level of the deity, not as a separate ego.
Application: Use the declaration to stabilize focus and reduce doubt; treat it as a disciplined ritual stance (abhimāna) rather than casual self-assertion.
Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi / Mantra-nyasa and Śaiva ritual declarations (Isana-kalpa aligned)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Related Themes: Agni Purana 78 (nyāsa, aṅga-mantras, and preparatory purifications leading to self-identification)
It teaches a Śaiva ritual action: forming the Śiva-hasta mudrā and placing it on the head as a nyāsa-like act, followed by an identification formula (ahaṃgraha) affirming Śiva-nature and the primacy of yajña (worship/sacrificial rite).
Alongside mythology and dharma, the Agni Purana preserves practical worship-technology—mudrā, bodily placement, and liturgical self-declarations—showing it functions as a ritual handbook as well as a narrative Purāṇa.
By ritually installing the Śiva principle (gesture + head-placement) and affirming unity with Śiva, the practitioner aims at purification, steadiness in worship, and merit through prioritizing yajña as the central spiritual discipline.
