FAQs

It prescribes a four-day observance involving milk-based feeding (dāna/anna-sevā) and a homa using sesame-type oblations, specifically fueled by palāśa samidh, with notes on manuscript variants tied to a Varuṇa-related rite.

It functions like a compact ritual manual: specifying duration (four days), materials (milk-food, sesame oblations), and ritual implements/fuel (kumbha, vedi, palāśa samidh), illustrating the Agni Purana’s practical, procedural coverage beyond narrative theology.

Milk-based feeding and properly fueled homa are classic purificatory and propitiatory acts; when aligned with a deity-specific rite (here, Varuṇa), they are understood to remove ritual impurity and secure divine favor through disciplined, time-bound performance.
