इत्य् आग्नेये महापुराणे गङ्गामाहात्म्यं नाम दशाधिकशततमो ऽध्यायः अथ एकादशाधिकशततमो ऽध्यायः प्रयागमाहात्म्यं अग्निर् उवाच वक्ष्ये प्रयागमाहात्म्यं भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदं परं प्रयागे ब्रह्मविष्ण्वाद्या देव मुनिवराः स्थिताः
ity āgneye mahāpurāṇe gaṅgāmāhātmyaṃ nāma daśādhikaśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ atha ekādaśādhikaśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ prayāgamāhātmyaṃ agnir uvāca vakṣye prayāgamāhātmyaṃ bhuktimuktipradaṃ paraṃ prayāge brahmaviṣṇvādyā deva munivarāḥ sthitāḥ
ดังนี้ในอัคนิมหาปุราณะ บทที่หนึ่งร้อยสิบชื่อว่า “มหาตมะแห่งคงคา” ได้สิ้นสุดลง บัดนี้เริ่มบทที่หนึ่งร้อยสิบเอ็ด “มหาตมะแห่งประยาคะ” อัคนีกล่าวว่า “เราจักประกาศมหาตมะอันสูงสุดของประยาคะ ซึ่งประทานทั้งความสุขทางโลกและโมกษะ ณ ประยาคะมีพรหมา วิษณุ และเหล่าเทพ พร้อมทั้งฤๅษีผู้ประเสริฐสถิตอยู่”
