पाशोऽयं पशुभावस्तु स यदा पतितो भवेत् । तदा पाशुपतं शास्त्रं जायते वेदसंज्ञितम् ॥ ७०.४३ ॥

pāśo ’yaṃ paśubhāvas tu sa yadā patito bhavet | tadā pāśupataṃ śāstraṃ jāyate vedasaṃjñitam || 70.43 ||

ఇది ‘పాశం’—అంటే పశుభావము, బద్ధజీవస్థితి. అది తొలగినప్పుడు ‘పాశుపత’ శాస్త్రము ఉద్భవించి ‘వేద’ అనే పేరుతో ప్రసిద్ధమగును।
