Varaha Purana 69.14 — Adhyaya 69, Shloka 14

Agastya’s Vision of Varuṇa as Nārāyaṇa in Ilāvṛta

tato'haṃ tasya vacanāt tasyāṃ droṇyāṃ narādhipa | viśāmi tāvat sarasi sā droṇī pratyamajjata || 69.14 ||

FAQs

It illustrates a common Purāṇic narrative technique: a first-person report framed within royal address (narādhipa), using concrete hydrological imagery (sarasi) to advance a larger episodic account preserved in the Varāha Purāṇa’s dialogue tradition.

The verse mentions a generic 'lake' (sarasi) without naming a specific tīrtha or locality; therefore, no secure modern identification can be made from this excerpt alone.

The ethical content is implicit rather than explicit here: the passage emphasizes responsiveness to instruction (vacanāt) and careful attention to actions in natural settings (a lake), a theme often used in Purāṇic literature to frame responsible conduct within culturally valued landscapes.
