सामगेषु समुत्पन्नस्तस्मान्मगध उच्यते । ऐंद्रेण हविषा चापि हविः पृक्तं बृहस्पतिः
sāmageṣu samutpannastasmānmagadha ucyate | aiṃdreṇa haviṣā cāpi haviḥ pṛktaṃ bṛhaspatiḥ
సామగానకుల మధ్య జన్మించినందున అతడు ‘మగధ’ అని పిలువబడాడు. అలాగే బృహస్పతి ఇంద్రుని హవిసుతో ఆ హవిని కలిపి విధివిధానంగా సమ్మేళనం చేశాడు।
