अतीते तु पुरा कल्पे यथेयं वर्ततेऽनघ । अस्यान्त्यस्य च कल्पस्य व्यवस्थां कथय प्रभो । एवमुक्तः सभामध्ये मार्कण्डो वाक्यमब्रवीत्
atīte tu purā kalpe yatheyaṃ vartate'nagha | asyāntyasya ca kalpasya vyavasthāṃ kathaya prabho | evamuktaḥ sabhāmadhye mārkaṇḍo vākyamabravīt
ఓ నిర్దోషుడా! పూర్వంలో గతించిన కల్పంలో ఇది ఎలా ఉండేదో, ఇప్పుడు ఎలా ఉందో, అలాగే ఈ అంత్య కల్పపు విధానమూ వ్యవస్థయూ చెప్పుము, ప్రభో. ఇలా సభామధ్యంలో అడగబడగా మార్కండేయుడు ఈ వాక్యములు పలికెను.
