FAQs

It teaches that devotion and correct Shaiva intention are primary: the Tripuṇḍra signifies Śiva-bhakti and purity, and when bhasma is unavailable, a respectful substitute (clean earth) preserves the spirit of worship without abandoning dharma.

In Liṅga/Saguṇa-Śiva worship, outer observances like Tripuṇḍra support inner remembrance of Pati (Śiva). The verse permits continuity of pūjā even when ideal materials are missing, emphasizing steadfast worship of the Liṅga with proper Shaiva marks.

Apply the Tripuṇḍra on the forehead; if bhasma is not available, use clean earth as a substitute and continue Śiva-pūjā with mantra-japa (such as the Pañcākṣarī, “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and focused devotion.
