Śivakṣetra–Tīrtha–Māhātmya
The Salvific Function of Shiva’s Sacred Domains
पुण्यक्षेत्रे कृतं पुण्यं बहुधा ऋद्धिमृच्छति । पुण्यक्षेत्रे कृतं पापं महदण्वपि जायते
puṇyakṣetre kṛtaṃ puṇyaṃ bahudhā ṛddhimṛcchati | puṇyakṣetre kṛtaṃ pāpaṃ mahadaṇvapi jāyate

Sthala Purana: General tīrtha-doctrine: sacred space amplifies karmic outcomes—puṇya multiplies, and even subtle pāpa becomes weighty—thereby urging heightened vigilance in kṣetras.
Significance: Teaches kṣetra as a ‘karmic amplifier’: it supports rapid purification when aligned with dharma, but intensifies bondage when misused.
It teaches kṣetra-māhātmya: in Shiva’s sacred spaces, karma becomes more potent—devotion and virtue quickly bear fruit, while negligence and wrongdoing carry heavier consequences, urging careful, reverent living.
A puṇyakṣetra is understood as a place where Saguna Shiva is especially accessible through the Linga; worship there amplifies bhakti and merit, so the devotee is advised to approach the shrine with purity, restraint, and sincerity.
Maintain strict śauca (purity) in a kṣetra: perform Linga-pūjā with mantra-japa (especially the Pañcākṣarī ‘Om Namaḥ Śivāya’), apply Tripuṇḍra/bhasma, and avoid harmful actions, speech, and intent during pilgrimage.
