Bharata at Bharadvāja’s Hermitage
हतोऽस्मि यदि मामेवं भगवानपि मन्यते।मत्तो न दोषमाशङ्के नैवं मामनुशास्तु हि।2.90.15।।
hato 'smi yadi mām evaṃ bhagavān api manyate |
matto na doṣam āśaṅke naivaṃ mām anuśāstu hi || 2.90.15 ||
భగవాన్, మీరు కూడా నన్ను ఇలానే భావిస్తే నేను నశించిపోయినవాడినే. నాలో దోషముందని అనుమానించకండి; ఈ విధంగా నన్ను గద్దించకండి।
I do not approve of whatever my mother said in my absence. I am not happy with those words and I do not accept them.
The verse centers on satya (truthfulness of intention) and moral accountability: Bharata insists that suspicion itself wounds dharma when one’s conduct is upright.
Bharata responds to Bharadvāja’s implied accusation that he may seek the throne by harming Rāma.
Śīla (upright character) and śuddha-bhāva (purity of motive), expressed through Bharata’s anguished repudiation of any selfish intent.
