Rama’s Attempt to Dissuade Sita from Forest Exile
अतीव वातास्तिमिरं बुभुक्षा चात्र नित्यशः।भयानि च महान्त्यत्र ततो दुःखतरं वनम्।।2.28.18।।
atīva vātās timiraṃ bubhukṣā cātra nityaśaḥ |
bhayāni ca mahānty atra tato duḥkhataraṃ vanam ||2.28.18||
అక్కడ తీవ్రమైన గాలులు, ఘోరాంధకారం, నిత్యమైన ఆకలి ఉంటాయి; మహాభయాలూ ఉన్నాయి—అందుచేత వనవాసం అత్యంత దుఃఖకరం।
There are various forms of fierce reptiles fearlessly crawling on the ground. So (living in the) forest is extremely dangerous.
Satya aligned with dharma: Rāma speaks truthfully about suffering, teaching that righteous choices require informed acceptance of hardship.
Rāma enumerates environmental hardships to dissuade Sītā from joining him in exile.
Fortitude and honesty—acknowledging fear and deprivation without abandoning duty.
