punātyāsaptamaṃ caiva kulaṃ nāstyatra saṃśayaḥ | avakīrṇaṃ ca tatraiva tīrthaṃ kurukulodvaha
Pulastya (addressing Bhīṣma)
Concept: Meritorious acts at tīrthas uplift one’s lineage; dharma is transgenerational, not merely individual.
Application: Dedicate spiritual practice to family welfare: perform tarpaṇa, charity in ancestors’ names, and cultivate virtues that ‘purify the line’—truthfulness, non-harm, devotion.
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: tirtha
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"Pulastya addresses Bhīṣma with calm certainty, pointing toward a marked spot called Avakīrṇa-tīrtha. Behind them, a translucent procession of ancestors—seven generations—stands in blessing posture, gradually brightening as the tīrtha’s sanctity ‘washes’ through them like light through water.","primary_figures":["Pulastya","Bhīṣma","ancestral figures (seven-generation silhouettes)"],"setting":"riverbank tīrtha with a small name-stone ‘Avakīrṇa’, kusa/darbha grass, offering vessels","lighting_mood":"temple lamp-lit","color_palette":["amber","deep brown","aqua blue","soft ivory","antique gold"],"tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting style: Pulastya teaching Bhīṣma at Avakīrṇa-tīrtha, name-stone visible, ancestors as faint haloed figures in the background; gold leaf on halos and sacred markers, rich reds/greens, ornate jewelry on sages in stylized iconography.","pahari_prompt":"Pahari miniature style: intimate teacher-disciple scene on a quiet bank, delicate translucent ancestors in layered washes behind, subtle ripples and reeds; refined faces, gentle earth tones with luminous water, poetic restraint.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural style: bold outlined sages, stylized ancestor silhouettes in graded tones, tīrtha marker and ritual vessels; natural pigments, symmetrical composition, expressive eyes, warm reds/yellows with cool water band.","pichwai_prompt":"Pichwai cloth painting style: central tīrtha marker framed by floral borders, seven ancestor medallions around the scene like a garland, sages in the foreground; deep blues and gold, intricate lotus motifs, devotional textile density."}
Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"devotional","suggested_raga":"Durga","pace":"moderate-narrative","voice_tone":"reverent-soft","sound_elements":["soft bells","river hush","lamp crackle","distant chanting"]}
Sandhi Resolution Notes: पुनात्यासप्तमम् = पुनाति + आ + सप्तमम्; चैव = च + एव; नास्त्यत्र = न + अस्ति + अत्र; तत्रैव = तत्र + एव
It states that the merit of the referenced act or sacred association purifies one’s family line up to the seventh generation, leaving “no doubt” about its efficacy.
It implies that through sanctifying contact (avakīrṇa—made holy/consecrated), the location itself attains the status of a tīrtha, worthy of pilgrimage and spiritual benefit.
It is an honorific—“foremost of the Kuru dynasty”—used to address Bhīṣma respectfully within the Purāṇic dialogue style.
