Narada Purana — Purva Bhaga, Shloka 40

Bhakti-Śraddhā-Ācāra-Māhātmya and the Commencement of the Mārkaṇḍeya Narrative

tvaṃ hi bhakto rameśasya devadevasya cakriṇaḥ | etānnigadituṃ śaktastvato nāstyadhiko'paraḥ || 40 ||

FAQs

The verse establishes devotional qualification (bhakti) as the basis for spiritual authority: Narada’s intimacy with Viṣṇu (Rameśa, Cakrin) makes him uniquely fit to transmit sacred teachings accurately.

It implies that true exposition of dharma and purāṇic wisdom is empowered by devotion to Viṣṇu—bhakti is not merely emotion but a credential that grants clarity, steadiness, and the capacity to guide others.

No specific Vedāṅga (like Vyākaraṇa, Jyotiṣa, or Kalpa) is taught directly here; the practical takeaway is the principle of adhikāra—only a qualified, devoted teacher should expound śāstra.
