Bhakti-Śraddhā-Ācāra-Māhātmya and the Commencement of the Mārkaṇḍeya Narrative
ācāraprabhavo dharmaḥ dharmmasya prabhuracyutaḥ | āśramācārayuktena pūjitaḥ sarvadā hariḥ || 22 ||
Narada
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: bhakti
It links dharma to lived discipline (ācāra) and grounds that discipline in devotion: since Acyuta is the authority of dharma, righteous living culminates in steady worship of Hari.
Bhakti is presented as consistent worship supported by āśrama-appropriate conduct—devotion is not isolated from daily duties but fulfilled through them when oriented to Hari.
The verse emphasizes smārta/ācāra-based practice—proper observance of āśrama duties and ritual decorum (sadācāra) as the practical framework for worship, rather than a specific Vedāṅga like Vyākaraṇa or Jyotiṣa.
