Indra–Vṛtra Conflict and the Adversaries’ Tapas-Targeting Counsel

tam evaṁ-vādinaṁ tatra rāmo vacanam abravīt | alaṁ vai vyapadeśena dhanuḥ āyaccha rāghava |

Educational Q&A

The verse contrasts empty self-assertion with dharmic integrity: worth is demonstrated through disciplined action and capability, not through boastful claims or rhetorical posturing.

In the course of Lomasha’s narration, Rāma responds to someone speaking assertively by cutting short the talk and issuing a direct challenge: to take the bow and string it, making the matter one of demonstrable deed rather than words.
