Prabhāsa-tīrthe Vṛṣṇi–Pāṇḍava-saṅgamaḥ; Halī Rāmasya dharma-vimarśaḥ

Meeting at Prabhāsa and Balarāma’s Reflection on Dharma

duryodhane cāpi vivardhamāne yudhiṣṭhire cāsukham āttarājye | kiṃ tv atra kartavyam iti prajābhiḥ śaṅkā mithaḥ sañjanitā narāṇām ||

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights a classic ethical crisis: when the unrighteous appear to flourish and the righteous suffer, society’s confidence in dharma is shaken. It warns that visible outcomes alone can mislead people into thinking adharma is superior, creating a need for deeper discernment about duty beyond immediate success.

Balarāma comments on the contrast between Duryodhana’s rising power and Yudhiṣṭhira’s distress after losing his kingdom. Observing this, the people begin questioning one another about the right course—whether to adhere to dharma or to adopt adharma—showing how political events generate widespread moral uncertainty.
