Janaka–Sulabhā Dialogue on Mokṣa and Non-attachment

na veda-niṣṭhasya janasya rājan pradeyam etat paramaṃ tvayā bhavet | vidhitsamānāya vibodha-kāraṇa prabodha-hetoḥ praṇatasya śāsanam ||

Educational Q&A

The core teaching is about adhikāra (eligibility): the highest instruction should be given only to a receptive student—one who respects Vedic authority, earnestly seeks awakening, and approaches with humility—rather than to someone lacking faith or steadiness.

Vasiṣṭha addresses a king and sets a rule for transmitting profound knowledge: the king should teach it selectively, offering it as a disciplined instruction to a sincere, bowed, truth-seeking listener, not indiscriminately to the unreverent or unprepared.
