Adhyāya 180: Jīva, Śarīra, and the Fire Analogy (भृगु–भरद्वाज संवादः)
बहुकथितमिदं हि बुद्धिमद्धिः कविभिरपि प्रथयद्धिरात्मकीर्तिम् । इदमिदमिति तत्र तत्र हन््त स्वपरमतैर्गहनं प्रतर्कयद्धि:ः
bahukathitam idaṁ hi buddhimadbhiḥ kavibhir api prathayadbhir ātmakīrtim | idam idam iti tatra tatra hanta svaparamataiḥ gahanaṁ pratarkayadbhiḥ ||
భీష్ముడు పలికెను—ఈ వ్రతాన్ని బుద్ధిమంతులైన పండితులు, కవులు కూడా అనేక విధాలుగా వివరించారు—తమ కీర్తిని విస్తరించాలనే ఆశతో. తమ తమ సిద్ధాంతాలనూ, ఇతరుల మతాలనూ ఆధారంగా చేసుకొని గాఢమైన తర్క-ప్రతితర్కాలు చేస్తూ, ఎక్కడెక్కడో “ఇలా చేయాలి, ఇలా చేయాలి” అని పదే పదే అంటుంటారు.
