kānaneṣu ca ramyeṣu parvateṣu nadīṣu ca | nivasann ānayāmāsa vṛṣṇidārān dhanaṃjayaḥ ||
When social order collapses after collective wrongdoing, dharma still requires the capable to protect the vulnerable. Arjuna’s act highlights the kṣatriya obligation to provide refuge and safe passage to dependents even amid instability and grief.
After the downfall of the Yādavas/Vṛṣṇis, Arjuna (Dhanañjaya) escorts the Vṛṣṇi women and dependents. The verse depicts him traveling and temporarily residing through forests, mountains, and river-regions while bringing them along toward safety.
