कृतां राज्यप्रदानेन प्रतिज्ञां परिपालयन् । बचपनसे लेकर सदा ही किये हुए आपके पुत्रके सौहार्दका वह समादर करता था और दुर्योधनको राज्य दिलानेकी जो उसने प्रतिज्ञा कर रखी थी, उसके पालनमें वह तत्पर था
kṛtāṃ rājyapradānena pratijñāṃ paripālayan | bālyāt prabhṛti sadā kṛtaṃ tava putrasya sauhārdaṃ sa samādarat, duryodhanāya rājyaṃ dātum iti yā pratijñā tasya pālane sa tatpara āsīt |
సంజయుడు పలికెను— దుర్యోధనునికి రాజ్యము కల్పించుదునని చేసిన ప్రతిజ్ఞను నిలబెట్టుకొనుచు, దాని నెరవేర్పులో అతడు ఎల్లప్పుడూ తత్పరుడై యుండెను. బాల్యము నుండే మీ కుమారుడు చూపిన సౌహార్దాన్ని గౌరవించుచు, ఆ బంధానికి విధేయుడై దుర్యోధనునికి రాజ్యము దక్కించుటకు చేసిన శపథాన్ని నిలుపుటకు ప్రయత్నించెను.
