देवदत्तां पतिर्भा्या वेत्ति धर्मस्य शासनात् । स दैवीं मानुषी वाचमनृतां पर्युदस्यति
devadattāṁ patir bhāryāṁ vetti dharmasya śāsanāt | sa daivīṁ mānuṣīṁ vācam anṛtāṁ paryudasyati ||
భీష్ముడు అన్నాడు—ధర్మశాసనాల ప్రకారం న్యాయంగా తనకు లభించిన స్త్రీని భర్త దేవదత్తంలా తన భార్యగా గుర్తిస్తాడు. అందువల్ల ఆమెను విధి ప్రసాదమని భావించి స్వీకరిస్తాడు; ఆ వివాహం అనుచితమని చెప్పే మనుషుల అబద్ధపు మాటలను త్రోసిపుచ్చుతాడు.
