Śiva-stavarāja: Upamanyu’s Preface and Initiation of the Śarva-Nāma Enumeration
Anuśāsana-parva 17
ghṛtāt sāraṃ yathā maṇḍas tathaitat sāram uddhṛtam |
The verse teaches that the highest value lies in the distilled essence (sāra) of a teaching—like the finest extract from ghee—rather than in sheer quantity. It commends concise, concentrated wisdom as spiritually and ethically potent.
Vāyu-deva is speaking and characterizing what has just been presented as an ‘extracted essence’—a summary or distilled core of a larger body of names/teachings—using the metaphor of drawing the finest part from ghee.
