वंशानुकीर्तनम् — Genealogical Recitation from Dakṣa to Yayāti and the Establishment of the Paurava Line
स काश्यपतपोगुप्तमाश्रमप्रवरं शुभम् | नातृप्यत् प्रेक्षमाणो वै तपोवनगुणैर्युतम्,वह श्रेष्ठ एवं शुभ आश्रम कश्यपनन्दन महर्षि कण्वकी तपस्यासे सुरक्षित तथा तपोवनके उत्तम गुणोंसे संयुक्त था। राजा उसे देखकर तृप्त नहीं होते थे
sa kāśyapatapoguptam āśramapravaraṃ śubham | nātṛpyat prekṣamāṇo vai tapovanaguṇair yutam ||
వైశంపాయనుడు పలికెను—ఆ శుభమైన, శ్రేష్ఠమైన ఆశ్రమం కాశ్యప వంశపు తపస్సు చేత రక్షింపబడినది; తపోవన గుణసంపత్తితో సమృద్ధమైనది. దానిని చూస్తూ రాజు తృప్తి పొందలేదు।
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the ethical power of tapas (disciplined austerity): a life rooted in restraint and spiritual practice ‘protects’ a community and makes a place intrinsically auspicious. It also models how a righteous king should respond—with reverence and attraction toward dharmic spaces rather than mere worldly splendor.
Vaiśampāyana describes a king arriving at and observing an eminent hermitage. The āśrama is portrayed as safeguarded by ascetic power and filled with the virtues of a tapovana; the king, captivated by its sanctity, cannot feel fully satisfied merely by looking—he continues to gaze in admiration.
