Educational Q&A

Power—especially martial power—is portrayed as legitimate only when sanctioned by divine grace. The verse links the acquisition of extraordinary weapons to Mahādeva’s pleasure, implying that devotion, self-control, and worthiness must precede the right to wield destructive force.

Vaiśaṃpāyana reports a promise: once Mahādeva becomes pleased with the addressed person (a Pāṇḍu’s son in the surrounding context), the speaker will bestow the complete set of Pāṇḍava weapons/missiles. The moment anticipates a future attainment conditioned on Śiva’s favor.
