Sukta 4
शृङ्गा॑भ्यां॒ रक्ष॑ ऋष॒त्यव॑र्तिं हन्ति॒ चक्षु॑षा । शृ॒णोति॑ भ॒द्रं कर्णा॑भ्यां॒ गवां॒ यः पति॑र॒घ्न्यः
śṛ́ṅgābhyāṁ rákṣa ṛṣáty àvartiṁ hánti cákṣuṣā | śṛṇóti bhadráṁ kárṇābhyāṁ gávāṁ yáḥ pátir aghnyáḥ ||
With his two horns he smites the fiend that would assail; with his eye he slays the repulse. With his two ears he hearkens after good—he who is lord of kine, the inviolable.
తన రెండు కొమ్ములతో అతడు దాడి చేయబోయే రక్షస్/దుష్టశక్తిని కొడతాడు; తన కంటితో ‘అవర్తి’ (avarti—ప్రతిఘాతం/నిరోధం) ను సంహరిస్తాడు. తన రెండు చెవులతో మంగళాన్ని వింటాడు—అతడు గోవుల అధిపతి; ‘అఘ్న్య’ (aghnya—వధించరాని/అహింస్యుడు).
