तदङ्गविहिताकाङ्क्षस्तद्गुप्तं गूढमप्यदः यत्रार्थान्तरनिर्भासो वाक्याङ्गच्यवनादिभिः

tadaṅgavihitākāṅkṣastadguptaṃ gūḍhamapyadaḥ yatrārthāntaranirbhāso vākyāṅgacyavanādibhiḥ

వాక్యంలోని ఒక భాగం వల్ల ఆకాంక్ష ఏర్పడినా, ఉద్దేశ్యార్థం దాగి ఉండే ప్రకటనను ‘గూఢం’ అంటారు. ఇందులో వాక్యాంగాల స్థానచలనం/లుప్తి వంటి నిర్మాణ మార్పుల ద్వారా భిన్నార్థప్రతీతి (అర్థాంతర-నిర్భాస) కలుగుతుంది.
