Related Themes: Agni Purana 37 (pavitraka rites; annual observances)
It gives the acceptance-mantra used while offering/placing the pavitraka (a sanctifying sacred thread/ring/garland) to Śiva, explicitly stating its function: purification and conferral of the merit of year-long worship.
Beyond mythic narration, it preserves a practical liturgical formula and ritual intent-statement (saṅkalpa-like phrasing) for temple/home worship—showing the text’s coverage of procedural religion alongside other sciences.
The verse frames the pavitraka as a purifier and as a means to obtain the full puṇya (merit) of sustained annual devotion, emphasizing sanctification of worship and the devotee’s karmic accrual through correct offering.
