धर्मोत्पत्तिं य इमां श्रावयीत तदा श्राद्धे तर्पयेत पितॄंश्च । त्रयोदश्यां पायसेन स्वशक्त्या स स्वर्गगामी तु सुरानुपेयात् ॥ ३२.३३ ॥

dharmotpattiṁ ya imāṁ śrāvayīta tadā śrāddhe tarpayet pitṝṁś ca | trayodaśyāṁ pāyasena svaśaktyā sa svargagāmī tu surān upeyāt || 32.33 ||

இந்த ‘தர்மத்தின் தோற்றம்’ பற்றிய வரலாற்றை யார் பாராயணம்/கேட்பிக்கிறாரோ, அவர் ஸ்ராத்த காலத்தில் பித்ருக்களுக்கு தர்ப்பணம் செய்ய வேண்டும். திரயோதசி நாளில் தன் வல்லமைக்கேற்ப பாயசம் அர்ப்பணித்தால், அவர் ஸ்வர்க்கம் அடைந்து தேவர்களின் சங்கத்தைப் பெறுவார்।
