Verse 35

Yogatattva

नात्युच्छ्रितं नातिनीचं चैलाजिनकुशोत्तरम् । तत्रोपविश्य मेधावी पद्मासनसमन्वितः ॥

ऋजुकायः प्राञ्जलिश्च प्रणमेदिष्टदेवताम् । ततो दक्षिणहस्तस्य अङ्गुष्ठेनैव पिङ्गलाम् ॥

निरुध्य पूरयेद्वायुमिडया तु शनैः शनैः । यथाशक्त्यविरोधेन ततः कुर्याच्च कुम्भकम् ॥

पुनस्त्यजेत्पिङ्गलया शनैरेव न वेगतः । पुनः पिङ्गलयापूर्य पूरयेदुदरं शनैः ॥

धारयित्वा यथाशक्ति रेचयेदिडया शनैः । यया त्यजेत्तयापूर्य धारयेदविरोधतः ॥

जानु प्रदक्षिणीकृत्य न द्रुतं न विलम्बितम् । अङ्गुलिस्फोटनं कुर्यात्सा मात्रा परिगीयते ॥३५–४०॥

ततः । दक्षिण-हस्तस्य । अङ्गुष्ठेन एव । पिङ्गलाम् ।

निरुध्य । पूरयेत् । वायुम् । इडया तु । शनैः शनैः ।

यथा-शक्ति । अविरोधेन । ततः । कुर्यात् च । कुम्भकम् ।

पुनः । त्यजेत् । पिङ्गलया । शनैः एव । न । वेगतः ।

पुनः । पिङ्गलया । पूर्य । पूरयेत् । उदरम् । शनैः ।

धारयित्वा । यथा-शक्ति । रेचयेत् । इडया । शनैः ।

यया । त्यजेत् । तया । पूर्य । धारयेत् । अविरोधतः ।

जानु । प्रदक्षिणी-कृत्य । न । द्रुतम् । न । विलम्बितम् ।

अङ्गुलि-स्फोटनम् । कुर्यात् । सा । मात्रा । परिगीयते ॥३५–४०॥

nātyucchritaṃ nātinīcaṃ cailājina-kuśottaram | tatropaviśya medhāvī padmāsana-samanvitaḥ ||

ṛjukāyaḥ prāñjaliś ca praṇamed iṣṭadevatām | tato dakṣiṇahastasya aṅguṣṭhenaiva piṅgalām ||

nirudhya pūrayed vāyum iḍayā tu śanaiḥ śanaiḥ | yathāśakty-avirodhena tataḥ kuryāc ca kumbhakam ||

punas tyajet piṅgalayā śanaireva na vegataḥ | punaḥ piṅgalayāpūrya pūrayed udaraṃ śanaiḥ ||

dhārayitvā yathāśakti recayed iḍayā śanaiḥ | yayā tyajet tayāpūrya dhārayed avirodhataḥ ||

jānu pradakṣiṇīkṛtya na drutaṃ na vilambitam | aṅgulisphoṭanaṃ kuryāt sā mātrā parigīyate ||35–40||

ஆசனம் மிக உயரமாகவும் மிகத் தாழ்வாகவும் இருக்கக் கூடாது; மேலடுக்கு துணி, மான்தோல், தர்ப்பை ஆகியவை இருக்க வேண்டும். அங்கே மேதாவி சாதகர் பத்மாசனத்தில் அமர்ந்து, உடலை நேராக வைத்து, கைகளை கூப்பி இஷ்டதேவதைக்கு வணங்க வேண்டும். பின்னர் வலது கையின் பெருவிரலால் பிங்கல நாசியை அடைத்து, இடா வழியாக மெதுவாக மெதுவாக சுவாசத்தை நிரப்ப வேண்டும்; சக்தியளவிற்கு இழுத்தடிப்பு இன்றி கும்பகம் செய்ய வேண்டும். மீண்டும் பிங்கல வழியாகவே மெதுவாக வெளியேற்ற வேண்டும், வேகமாக அல்ல; மீண்டும் பிங்கல வழியாக மெதுவாக வயிற்றை நிரப்ப வேண்டும். யதாசக்தி தாரணை செய்து, இடா வழியாக மெதுவாக ரேசனம் செய்ய வேண்டும்; எந்த நாசியால் வெளியேற்றினானோ அதே நாசியால் உள்ளிழுத்து, இடையூறு இன்றி தாரணை செய்ய வேண்டும். முழங்காலைப் பிரதட்சிணை போல ஒழுங்கான லயத்தில் வைத்து, மிக விரைவாகவும் மிக தாமதமாகவும் அல்லாமல், விரல்களைச் சடக்கச் செய்ய வேண்டும்—இதுவே ‘மாத்ரா’ (கால அளவு) எனப் புகழப்படுகிறது।

[The seat should be] neither too high nor too low, with cloth, antelope-skin, and kuśa-grass as the upper layer. Sitting there, the intelligent one, endowed with padmāsana, with body upright and hands joined, should bow to the chosen deity. Then, with the thumb of the right hand, having restrained the piṅgalā [nostril], he should fill the breath through iḍā slowly, slowly. According to capacity, without strain, he should then perform retention (kumbhaka). Again he should exhale through piṅgalā slowly, not forcefully. Again, filling through piṅgalā, he should fill the abdomen slowly. Having retained according to capacity, he should exhale through iḍā slowly. By whichever [nostril] he exhales, by that he should inhale, and retain without strain. Having made the knee a ‘rightward circuit’ (i.e., keeping a steady rhythmic count), neither quickly nor slowly, he should snap the fingers; that is said to be a mātrā (unit of time).
