सरस्वतीति वै लोके वर्तते नाम सांप्रतम् । अतीतं नाम यत्तस्याः कमंडलुभवेति च । रत्नाकरेति सामुद्रं सत्यं नामांतरं पुरा
sarasvatīti vai loke vartate nāma sāṃpratam | atītaṃ nāma yattasyāḥ kamaṃḍalubhaveti ca | ratnākareti sāmudraṃ satyaṃ nāmāṃtaraṃ purā
இன்றைய உலகில் அவள் ‘சரஸ்வதி’ என்ற நாமத்தால் வழங்கப்படுகிறாள். அவளின் முன்னைய பெயர் ‘கமண்டலுபவ’ என்றும், பழங்காலத்தில் கடல்-சார்ந்த அவளின் உண்மையான பெயர்மாற்று ‘ரத்நாகர’ என்றும் கூறப்படுகிறது.
