पुत्रि प्रदानकालस्ते न हि कश्चिद्वृणोति माम् । विचारयन्न पश्यामि वरं तुल्यमिहात्मनः
putri pradānakālaste na hi kaścidvṛṇoti mām | vicārayanna paśyāmi varaṃ tulyamihātmanaḥ
‘மகளே, உன் கன்யாதானக் காலம் வந்துவிட்டது; ஆனால் இங்கு யாரும் என்னை (உறவுக்காக) நாடவில்லை. சிந்தித்தாலும் எனக்கு இணையான வரனை காணவில்லை।’
