पुरा देवयुगे राजा कलिंगोनाम दानवः । जरामरणहीनोसौ देवानां च भयंकरः
purā devayuge rājā kaliṃgonāma dānavaḥ | jarāmaraṇahīnosau devānāṃ ca bhayaṃkaraḥ
முன்னொரு தேவயுகத்தில் கலிங்கன் என்னும் தானவ அரசன் இருந்தான். அவன் முதுமையும் மரணமும் அற்றவனாய் தேவர்களுக்கே அச்சமூட்டினான்.
