भेदास्त्रयः समाख्याता विज्ञेयाः स्मृतिनिर्णयात् । शिल्पिनः सप्त विज्ञेया उत्तमाः समुदाहृताः
bhedāstrayaḥ samākhyātā vijñeyāḥ smṛtinirṇayāt | śilpinaḥ sapta vijñeyā uttamāḥ samudāhṛtāḥ
ஸ்மிருதிகளின் தீர்மானத்தின்படி மூன்று வகைப் பிரிவுகள் கூறப்பட்டுள்ளன; அவை அறியத்தக்கவை. அவற்றில் ஏழு வகைச் சிற்பிகள் (கைவினைஞர்கள்) அறியப்பட வேண்டும்; அவர்கள் ‘உத்தமர்’ எனப் புகழப்பட்டுள்ளனர்.
