ततः केशेषु चाधाय यावत्तस्यापि चिक्षिपे । प्रहारं गात्रनाशाय तावदूचे स दानवः

tataḥ keśeṣu cādhāya yāvattasyāpi cikṣipe | prahāraṃ gātranāśāya tāvadūce sa dānavaḥ

பின்பு அவன் (தேவியின்) கூந்தலைப் பற்றிக் கொண்டு, உடலை அழிக்கும் வெட்டைக் கொடுக்க முனைந்த அதே வேளையில் அந்த தானவன் பேசினான்।
