ते मथ्यमानास्त्वरिता देवाः स्वात्मार्थसाधकाः । अभिलाषपराः सर्वे न श्रृण्वंति यतो जडाः
te mathyamānāstvaritā devāḥ svātmārthasādhakāḥ | abhilāṣaparāḥ sarve na śrṛṇvaṃti yato jaḍāḥ
ஆனால் அந்த தேவர்கள் மத்தனத்தில் அவசரப்பட்டு, தங்கள் சுயநல நிறைவேற்றத்திலேயே ஈடுபட்டனர்; அனைவரும் ஆசைமயமாக மந்தமடைந்து, அதனால் கேளாதிருந்தனர்।
