பண்டைய அறிஞர்கள் ‘ஜல-திவ்யம்’ இருவகை எனக் கூறினர்—ஒன்று ‘ஜலஹஸ்தம்’ (நீரில் கைச் சோதனை), மற்றொன்று ‘மஜ்ஜனம்’ (நீரில் மூழ்கடிக்கும் சோதனை) என அறியப்படுகிறது।
