uttiṣṭhottiṣṭha bhadraṃ te varaṃ brūhi dharottama | sotha śrutvā maheśānaṃ devadevaṃ trilocanam
Śiva (Maheśāna/Devadeva/Trilocana)
Tirtha: Kāśī (Avimukta)
Type: kshetra
Listener: Śaunaka and sages (contextual)
Scene: Śiva addresses Mandara: ‘Rise, rise; auspiciousness to you. Speak your boon, best of mountains.’ Mandara, having heard the Three-eyed Lord, prepares to respond.
Tapas culminates in darśana and varadāna (boon-giving); Śiva’s blessing begins with reassurance and auspicious uplift.
Within Kāśīkhaṇḍa’s sacred narrative world, Śiva’s role as Viśveśa/Trilocana reinforces Kāśī’s identity as the foremost Śaiva kṣetra.
No formal ritual is prescribed; the verse depicts the fruition of austerity (tapas) in receiving a boon.
