श्रावयेद्वैदिकं मंत्रं न शूद्राय कदाचन । ब्राह्मण्याद्धीयते विप्रः शूद्रो धर्माच्च हीयते
śrāvayedvaidikaṃ maṃtraṃ na śūdrāya kadācana | brāhmaṇyāddhīyate vipraḥ śūdro dharmācca hīyate
சூத்ரன் கேட்கும்படியாக வேத மந்திரத்தை ஒருபோதும் ஓதவும், ஓதச் செய்யவும் கூடாது. அத்தகைய நடத்தை காரணமாக விப்ரன் பிராமண்யத்திலிருந்து தாழ்வடைகிறான்; சூத்ரனும் தர்மத்திலிருந்து விலகுகிறான்.
