śrīmārkaṇḍeya uvāca | narmadādakṣiṇe kūle siddheśvaramiti śrutam | tīrthaṃ paraṃ mahārāja siddhaiḥ kṛtamiti prabho
Mārkaṇḍeya
Tirtha: Siddheśvara
Type: ghat
Listener: A king addressed as ‘mahārāja’/‘prabho’ (royal interlocutor in the Revā-khaṇḍa dialogue frame)
Scene: Mārkaṇḍeya, seated as a sage-narrator, points toward the Narmadā’s southern bank where a modest Śiva-liṅga shrine of Siddheśvara stands amid riverine trees; subtle presence of Siddhas (aerial/ethereal) suggests consecration.
Sacred places are legitimized through saintly/Siddha association, and approaching them is part of dharmic pilgrimage culture.
Siddheśvara tīrtha on the southern bank of the Narmadā.
No specific rite is prescribed in this verse; it introduces the tīrtha and its exalted origin.
