पुरा कृतयुगस्यादौ तोषितुं गिरिजापतिम् । तपश्चचार विपुलं विष्णुर्वर्षसहस्रकम् । वायुभक्षो निराहारः शुक्लतीर्थे व्यवस्थितः
purā kṛtayugasyādau toṣituṃ girijāpatim | tapaścacāra vipulaṃ viṣṇurvarṣasahasrakam | vāyubhakṣo nirāhāraḥ śuklatīrthe vyavasthitaḥ
முன்னொரு காலத்தில் க்ருதயுகத்தின் தொடக்கத்தில், கிரிஜாபதி (சிவன்) திருப்தியடைய விஷ்ணு ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் பெருந்தவம் செய்தார். காற்றையே உணவாகக் கொண்டு, நிராஹாரமாக, சுக்ல தீர்த்தத்தில் நிலைத்திருந்தார்।
