श्रीमार्कण्डेय उवाच । नर्मदादक्षिणे कूले तीर्थं परमशोभनम् । स्कन्देन निर्मितं पूर्वं तपः कृत्वा सुदारुणम्

ஸ்ரீ மார்க்கண்டேயர் கூறினார்—நர்மதையின் தென் கரையில் மிகச் சிறப்புமிக்க ஒரு தீர்த்தம் உள்ளது. முன்காலத்தில் ஸ்கந்தன் மிகக் கடுமையான தவம் செய்து அதை நிறுவினான்.
