Krauñca Seeks Refuge; Slaying of Bāṇāsura

Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya; chapter colophon)
Sthala Purana: Colophon (iti) marking the close of the chapter on Bāṇa–Pralamba-vadha and Kumāra’s victory; functions as textual boundary rather than a sthala-origin.
Significance: Liturgical use: reciters treat the colophon as a pause-point for phalaśruti-style closure and saṅkalpa completion.
This is a colophon marking the completion of a chapter; it frames the victory of Kumāra as an outcome of Shiva’s cosmic governance—where adharmic forces are subdued so dharma and devotion to Pati (Shiva) can flourish.
Though not a liturgical instruction, the colophon situates the narrative within the Rudra Saṃhitā, where Saguna Shiva’s will operates through divine agencies (like Kumāra). Such stories support faith in Shiva’s protective grace, often expressed through Linga worship and remembrance of his acts.
As a chapter-end marker, it implies scriptural recitation (svādhyāya) and śravaṇa. A practical takeaway is to conclude reading with Shiva-nāma japa—especially the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—dedicating the merit to Shiva.
