शौचं तु द्विविधं प्रोक्तं ब्राह्ममाभ्यंतरं तथा । मृज्जलाभ्यां बहिः शुद्धिर्भावशुद्धिस्तथांतरम् ॥ ९ ॥

தூய்மை இரண்டு வகை—வெளிப்புறமும் உள்ளுறமும்; இது பிராஹ்ம (ஆன்மிக) ஒழுக்கமாகப் போற்றப்படுகிறது. மண் மற்றும் நீரால் வெளித் தூய்மை; பாவ (உள்ளநிலை) தூய்மையால் அகத் தூய்மை॥
