Adhyaya 92 — Devi’s Assurance of Protection and the Fruits of Reciting the Devi Mahatmyam
उपसर्गानशेषांस्तु महामारीसमुद्भवान् ।
तथा त्रिविधमुत्पातं माहात्म्यं शमयेन्रमम् ॥
upasargān aśeṣāṃs tu mahāmārīsamudbhavān |
tathā trividham utpātaṃ māhātmyaṃ śamayen mama ||
ஆனால் என் இந்த மாஹாத்மியம் பெரும் தொற்றுநோய்களால் எழும் எல்லா துன்பங்களையும் அமைதிப்படுத்தும்; அதுபோல மூவகை உற்பாதங்களையும் (அபசகுனங்களையும்) தணிக்கும்।
Purāṇic devotion is presented as social medicine: the recitation is not only personal solace but also a communal śānti-practice in times of epidemic and collective anxiety.
Dharma and phala: ritual-therapeutic application of sacred narrative; not a cosmological lakṣaṇa itself, but a Purāṇic function supporting society’s welfare.
‘Mahāmārī’ and ‘utpāta’ can denote disruptions in prāṇa and in the perceived order of the world. The Māhātmya, as concentrated śakti-vāk, re-establishes inner and outer ‘ṛta’ (order) through śānti.
