Adhyaya 47 — Brahma’s Awakening and the Ninefold Scheme of Creation
ऊर्ध्वस्रोतस्तृतीयस्तु सात्त्विकः समवर्तत ।
ते सुखप्रीतिबहुला बहिरन्तस्त्वनावृताः ॥
ūrdhvastrotas tṛtīyas tu sāttvikaḥ samavartata /
te sukhaprītibahulā bahir antas tv anāvṛtāḥ ||
மூன்றாம் படைப்பு ‘ஊர்த்வ-ஸ்ரோதஸ்’ எனப்படும் சாத்த்விகப் படைப்பாக எழுந்தது. அவர்கள் இன்பமும் மகிழ்ச்சியும் நிறைந்தவர்கள்; வெளிப்புறமும் உள்ளுறமும் மறைவு இன்றியவர்கள்.

Sattva is associated with clarity, joy, and fewer inner obstructions; hence it supports higher knowledge and harmonious action. The verse encodes a value-structure: cultivating sattva aligns one with ‘upward’ movement.
Sarga: delineation of the deva-class as a distinct emanation with sattva predominance.
‘Upward-flowing’ indicates a consciousness naturally oriented to transcendence and luminosity—less covered by āvaraṇa, more transparent to the inner light.
