जातिं देशं च सत्यं च माहात्म्यं भरतर्षभ | धर्म वृत्ति च विज्ञाय क्षत्रियाणां नराधिप
jātiṃ deśaṃ ca satyaṃ ca māhātmyaṃ bharatarṣabha | dharmavṛttiṃ ca vijñāya kṣatriyāṇāṃ narādhipa rājan bharataśreṣṭha ||
வைசம்பாயனர் கூறினார்— ஓ பரதகுலச் சிறந்த அரசே! மகாபாரதக் கதை தொடங்கிய பின், ஒவ்வொரு பர்வத்திலும் க்ஷத்திரியரின் குலம், நாடு, சத்தியநிலை, மகிமை, மேலும் தர்மமும் வழக்கமான ஒழுக்கமும் அறிந்து, பிராமணர்களுக்கு எவை எவை அர்ப்பணிக்க வேண்டுமோ, அவற்றை இப்போது நான் விளக்குகிறேன்.
