अतः: पर प्रवक्ष्यामि यानि देयानि भारते । वाच्यमाने तु विप्रेभ्यो राजन् पर्वणि पर्वणि
ataḥ paraṁ pravakṣyāmi yāni deyāni bhārate | vācyamāne tu viprebhyo rājan parvaṇi parvaṇi ||
வைசம்பாயனர் கூறினார்—“இனி ‘பாரதம்’ (மகாபாரதம்) என்னும் இதனில் அளிக்க வேண்டிய தானங்களை நான் விளக்குகிறேன். அரசே, பிராமணர்களுக்காகக் கதை உரைக்கப்படும் போது, ஒவ்வொரு பர்வத்திலும் உரிய தானங்களைச் செலுத்த வேண்டும்.”
