Sāttvika-vṛtta-kathana (Brahmā on the Conduct of Sattva) — Chapter 38
मुधा दानं मुधा यज्ञो मुधा5धीतं मुधा व्रतम् । मुधा प्रतिग्रहश्वैव मुधा धर्मो मुधा तप:
vāyudeva uvāca | mudhā dānaṁ mudhā yajño mudhādhītaṁ mudhā vratam | mudhā pratigrahaś caiva mudhā dharmo mudhā tapaḥ ||
வாயுதேவன் கூறினான்—காமநோக்குடன் செய்யும் தானம் வீண்; யாகம் வீண்; கல்வி (அத்தியயனம்) வீண்; விரதமும் வீண்; தானம் பெறுதலும் வீண்; அதுபோல ஆசையால் நடத்தப்படும் ‘தர்மம்’ மற்றும் தவமும் வீண். இதை உணர்ந்து, முன் கூறிய நன்னடத்தைப் பேணி இவ்வுலகில் சத்தியத்தைச் சரணாகக் கொண்டு, வேதம் தோன்றும் ஆதாரமான பரப்ரஹ்ம பரமாத்மாவில் அசையாத நிஷ்டை கொண்டவர்கள்—அவர்களே திடமுள்ள, தெளிவுநோக்குடைய பிராமணர்கள் என மதிக்கப்படுவர்.
