uṣṇamannaṃ dvijātibhyo dātavyaṃ śreya icchatā / anyatra phalamūlebhyaḥ pānakebhyastathaiva ca

ஆன்ம நலன் (ஶ்ரேயஸ்) நாடுபவன் இருமுறை பிறந்தோர்க்கு சூடான, புதிதாகச் சமைத்த அன்னம் அளிக்க வேண்டும்; ஆனால் பழம்‑வேர் மற்றும் பானகம் (பானம்) விஷயத்தில் விதிவிலக்கு—அவை வேறு விதமாகவும் வழங்கலாம்।
